Match Cut Generator for News Headlines & Documentary Graphics

A free browser tool for motion designers and editors who need realistic news headlines, documentary-style graphics, and social-media match cuts — without leaving the canvas. Pick a template, type your text, click any word to highlight it, and export a 4K PNG ready for After Effects.

What you can build

How to make a match cut intro

  1. Pick a template from the left rail (Match Cut, Newspapers or Social).
  2. Edit the headline directly on the canvas. Click any word to highlight it with a marker, underline, box or solid block.
  3. Adjust the background, photo, byline and kicker on the right.
  4. Press Download PNG to export a 4K image. Repeat with a different template using the same text.
  5. In After Effects, stack the PNGs and align the highlighted word — same position, same size — to land your match cut.

Why motion designers use it

Building a documentary-style sequence usually means rebuilding the same headline ten times in different newspapers and websites. This generator does that in seconds with pixel-accurate typography, real publication colors and consistent highlight positions — so the cut between two graphics feels like a single continuous thought.

Frequently asked questions

What is a match cut?

A match cut is an editing technique where two consecutive shots share a visual element — shape, motion, or position — so the cut feels seamless. In motion graphics, a match cut between news headlines highlights the same word across different publications to compress a story into a single second of screen time.

Is the match cut generator free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark, no paywall. PNG exports are full 4K and can be used commercially in After Effects, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve and any video editor.

Can I create documentary graphics with it?

Yes. The Match Cut section includes documentary-style templates: quote highlights, chapter titles, centered focus, stacked lines, manifestos and editorial press quotes. Each is designed for slow zooms and word-level transitions.

What resolutions are supported?

1920×1080 (Full HD), 1080×1080 (square / Instagram), 1080×1920 (vertical / TikTok / Reels) and 3840×2160 (4K UHD). All exports are PNG with optional transparency.

How do I import the PNG into After Effects?

Drag the PNG into your composition. Each match-cut graphic uses the same canvas size, so they line up automatically. Animate scale and position with an ease-in-out curve and the highlighted word stays anchored across the cut.
